Overview

BerryDunn has partnered with Goodwill of Northern New England to find two qualified Accounting Managers to join the finance team: one specializing in Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable (AR/AP) and the other specializing in Grants & General Ledger (GL). These positions will play critical roles in ensuring the integrity of financial transactions and supporting the organization's financial health.

 

Headquartered in Gorham, Maine, Goodwill NNE with a three-state service area comprised of Maine, New Hampshire and nine northern counties in Vermont, is dedicated to investing in people who need support to achieve their work and life goals. This may include job training and career placements; health care supports that allow people to achieve their personal goals and providing jobs directly through our retail and cleaning enterprises. Our stores sell affordable goods donated by members of communities across our three states. In addition to providing flexible, stable jobs, our stores divert 50+ million pounds of donated goods from landfills annually.

Responsibilities

Accounting Manager (AR/AP)

  • Oversee day-to-day functions of A/P and A/R teams (6 staff total) and ensure timely processing of payments and receivables
  • Maintain accurate records of invoices, payments, and transactions.
  • Reconcile vendor and customer accounts, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Work closely with program and operational teams to ensure proper coding and allocation of expenses.
  • Develop and implement internal controls and process improvements for AP/AR workflows.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare financial reports related to payables and receivables.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and financial regulations.

Accounting Manager (Grants & GL)

 

  • Manage and oversee all financial activities related to grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the Senior Staff Accountant and Staff Accountant
  • Prepare and submit grant-related financial reports, invoices, and budget tracking reports.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Assist with grant audits and financial monitoring by funders.
  • Review account reconciliations including but limited to notes payable, inventory, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, leases, temporarily restricted funds, investments
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, CFR and Goodwill accounting policies
  • Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Collaborate with program managers to ensure accurate allocation of grant funds.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for grant and general ledger accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards (GAAP, CFR, etc.).

 

Qualifications

Accounting Manager (AR/AP)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of AR/AP processes, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
  • Solid and proven supervisory skills

Accounting Manager (Grants & GL)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grants management and general ledger accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of fund accounting and grant compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.

Compensation Details

Compensation range: $75,000-85.000.  This salary range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
