Drummond Woodsum is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the firm’s financial operations and strategy. This role is perfect for a forward-thinking financial leader who is energized by the opportunity to work closely with firm leadership, oversee a strong finance team, and support the financial direction of a leading regional law firm.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the Chief Administrative Officer, Managing Director, and Board of Directors to align financial strategy with firm objectives
  • Monitor industry trends and implement best practices in legal finance
  • Optimize accounting infrastructure and software, including time and billing systems

Team & Department Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance Manager and finance staff
  • Assess team needs and structure to ensure optimal financial support across the firm
  • Foster collaborative relationships across offices and departments

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee general ledger, financial reporting, and reconciliations
  • Prepare Board and shareholder reports; liaise with auditors and banking partners
  • Ensure compliance and integrity in trust accounting and internal controls
  • Manage asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and property reporting

Insurance & Risk Oversight

  • Serve as the primary contact for insurance brokers and underwriters
  • Manage liability and business insurance policies, renewals, and applications
  • Track insurance-related costs and participate on the Insurance Committee

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Lead development of the annual budget; monitor actuals vs. projections
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, reserve planning, and investment of excess cash
  • Deliver financial planning insights to leadership

Process & Policy Development

  • Evaluate and implement finance-related policies and procedures
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and automation

 

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting or Finance with 7+ years of successful financial leadership experience in finance/accounting in a professional services environment
  • Strong systems thinking, analytical skills, and familiarity with accounting software
  • Commitment to people development and a collaborative leadership style
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and strategic mindset

Compensation Details

The base salary range targeted for this role is $140,000-170,000. This salary range represents a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications more than the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
